Today I played a little of bit of soccer with my friend Teresa (we actually just passed the ball to each other for a while but hey, better than nothing, right?). Also, it was the perfect excuse to get a sporty picture of us in a very different context than our daily academic life.
Teresa used to play soccer when she was a child and she particularly loves the equipment and uniform. You can see that she’s all geared up! I was more casual, wearing the jersey of my favorite soccer team: FC Barcelona.
Like photography, soccer is one of the passions of my life. When I was a little child, my dad used to take me to the stadium to support his favorite Peruvian team, Sport Boys, which we continued doing until very recently (nowadays Sport Boys plays in the Peruvian Segunda División). I vaguely remember that we watched the 1990 World Soccer Cup on TV as well. Then I began watching soccer games by myself and probably between 1993 and 1994 (I remember that Hristo Stoichkhov, Romario, and Gheorghe Hagi were my idols) I started supporting Barça… Twenty years ago! Tons of happy and sad memories in these years, so many that I consider the culé team as a core part of my identity now.
I have been in Barcelona twice (2006), but those stays were quite short (one day the first one, and one day and one night the second one) so I couldn’t attend any Barça’s game (although I do have a selfie outside the Camp Nou). It’s one of my dreams, and I hope it can come true soon!….
Cheers from Soccer Mom.
awwww! thanks, eileen! 🙂 …
