When I was a child I used to play Nintendo’s “Baseball.” It is for sure the only baseball video game I have ever played; my favorite sports game has always been FIFA (although it’s been decades since the last time I played it!)
Sports are a significant part of my life. Just like some people read the NY Times as soon as they wake up, reading Spanish soccer newspapers belongs to my early morning traditions.) However, I don’t follow baseball too much; nine innings seems a lot to me!
These last days my assignments at The Chronicle have been related to this sport. For instance, in the past two weeks I shot two games at Duke:
(Hit that ball, #13! This photo was even published on the online version of The Chronicle!)
Today’s assignment for The Chronicle was related to the renovation works at Durham Bulls Stadium. Not exactly a game like for the two previous photos but still, a topic related to baseball:
So I drove to the stadium and took some photos of these renovation works. Season starts in April so they better hurry up but they need to be careful about safety at the same time!
Some of today’s images needed to depict what was going on there in a very straightforward way, like this one:
Nevertheless, I was also able to be a bit creative:
We’ll see which image my editors eventually choose!
Finally, as mentioned previously, what would we do without those invisible workers who make similar renovation works in a stadium, a museum, a neo-gothic university, and so on possible?…
