As mentioned previously, I’m participating in a photo contest organized by Duke’s Lilly Library.
This time, I recreated a photo from the Academics archive: “Hard at Work.” (1957) For this photo, I asked my friend Germain (yes, Joe and Ned in our Joe&Nancy Mysteries web series!) to be my model. We kept the “from above” perspective but replaced the cigarette and the typewriter. This is what we got:
Contemporary anti-smoking policies have led students to replace cigarettes with coffee when studying indoors. Nothing is better than the smell of dark coffee at getting inspiration flowing before a mid-term, a final exam, or a final paper.
What do you think, friends? This is the first black&white photo I sent to any contest so we’ll see if that brings me luck!…
